After learning the basics of modeling and rendering in Maya, I started working on a little more complex project, in order to really learn how to create a 3D character. So, here it is! The first character I created with Maya, Hershel Layton himself !
Well, of course it may seem a little bland and would need more colors, but hey, this is just the first step ! After modeling comes creating textures, UV mapping, materials, rendering configuration, and possibly rigging and animation… a few hours of work ahead !
Now you may be wondering: why bother modeling Layton ? Well, once upon a time (i.e.: last week), I was looking for 3D character modeling tutorials and found a very interesting video that was supposed to show how to make this model from scratch. However, it was more a demo than a tutorial and the whole modeling part was missing!
So I looked for other tutorials and found one that was quite interesting : Autodesk Maya 2012 Tutorial- Low Polygon Game Character.
By the way, I switched to high-poly for rendering but I still plan on making a low-poly version.
